Borno Police Command Warns Officers Against Human Rights Abuse

The Borno State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to professional policing, accountability, and the protection of human rights under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.
During a key briefing held today at the Police Headquarters in Maiduguri, CP Abdulmajajid addressed senior officers, including Tactical Commanders, Department Heads, and Divisional Police Officers, emphasising the importance of upholding ethical standards in all police operations.
In his speech, the Commissioner issued a firm warning against all forms of torture, excessive force, and human rights abuses.
He stressed that such misconduct is not only unlawful but also unprofessional, and will be met with strict disciplinary action.
“Our duty is to serve and protect the people with integrity and respect for their dignity. Any violation of human rights undermines public trust and damages the reputation of our force,” CP Abdulmajid stated.
He highlighted the importance of adhering to the Nigeria Police Force’s regulations, especially Force Order 237, which governs the proper use of force. Officers were instructed to exercise restraint, professionalism, and respect at all times, ensuring that community relations are strengthened rather than strained.
The CP also assured the public that any officer found guilty of rights violations will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law and internal disciplinary procedures.
He encouraged citizens to report misconduct through the Police Complaint Response Unit (PCRU) and other official channels, assuring them of confidentiality and prompt action on all complaints.
The Borno State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and human rights.
