Traditional rulers of Ugep and Idomi communities in Yakurr local government area, Cross River, have been charged to immediately call their subjects to order to allow peace reign in the two communities.

The Member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Dr. Alex Egbona gave the charge Tuesday in a message to the traditional rulers of the two communities to end the renewed hostilities in the area.

Egbona, who expressed sadness at the development, regretted that despite all his efforts and that of well meaning individuals of the area, “this mad and senseless war has again reared its ugly head.”

“I feel really sad that despite all my efforts and the efforts of well meaning leaders, this mad and senseless war has again reared its ugly head.

“We cannot grow by destroying lives and property. This madness must stop now.

“We cannot continue like this. That is why I have totally condemned these renewed hostilities and called on the two communities to end the war now,”Egbona stated.

The Federal Lawmaker recalled that at the beginning of the crisis recently, he did not only send elder statesmen to appease the warriors, but he equally visited them personally, all in an effort to quench the fire and restore peace.

“I was given the assurance that there won’t be any more war. But it shocks me that fresh hostilities have erupted, leading to loss of lives and property.

“I do not understand why the warriors have refused to listen to the voice of reason and allow peace in the two communities.

“I am told that in this latest phase of rift, two precious lives have been lost. This is worrisome, really painful , that lives are now involved,” here lamented.

Egbona also called on the state government and security agencies to be at their best and ensure that normalcy is restored and perpetrators made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Enough of this senseless blood-letting and carnage in our communities,” he warned.
