The Presidential Media Team, under the Renewed Hope Ambassadors of President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday undertook an inspection tour of the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project in Kebbi State, alongside key developmental projects executed by the administration of Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu).
The delegation, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, was received at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, alongside the Head of Service, TPL Malami Shekare, and members of the State Executive Council.
The team subsequently proceeded to various project sites across the state.
Speaking during the tour, Mr. Dare described the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway as a bold and transformative initiative that positions Nigeria among forward-looking 21st-century economies driven by sustainable infrastructure and long-term development planning.
He noted that the project, which spans critical economic corridors—including the Lagos–Calabar axis and the northern Sokoto–Badagry route—reflects President Tinubu’s far-reaching vision to connect regions, stimulate economic growth, and improve livelihoods nationwide.
Addressing concerns from skeptics, Dare emphasized that the inspection tour provided tangible proof of the administration’s commitment to infrastructural delivery.
He stressed that “seeing is believing,” as the team witnessed ongoing construction, completed sections, and the positive socio-economic impact on communities along the corridor.
He further explained that the media tour forms part of activities marking the administration’s approaching three-year milestone, noting that 1,095 days in office have yielded visible and measurable progress.
He cited the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway as a prime example of vision translated into reality.
The Presidential aide commended Governor Nasir Idris for the impressive pace of development in Kebbi State, highlighting numerous people-oriented projects across sectors, and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to the delegation.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, lauded President Tinubu for reviving and advancing the long-conceived Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project, describing it as a courageous initiative with far-reaching national benefits.
He disclosed that Kebbi State accounts for approximately 258 kilometers of the highway, making it the largest beneficiary of the project.
The Deputy Governor further affirmed that the state government has provided an enabling environment through robust security collaboration and logistical support, ensuring uninterrupted construction activities.
Providing technical updates, the Federal Controller of Works in Kebbi State, represented by Malami Aliyu, stated that construction commenced in December 2024, with significant milestones already achieved. These include 88 kilometers of site clearing, 19 kilometers of completed concrete pavement, and 6.3 kilometers of median installation.
He added that solar streetlights are being installed concurrently, while the project is expected to be completed within four years.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Faruk Muslim, highlighted several state government projects inspected by the team, including the completed 6.4-kilometer Argungu dual carriage bypass with solar lighting, as well as rehabilitated federal roads linking Argungu to Natsini, Bui to Kangiwa, and Kangiwa to Kamba.
Other projects visited during the tour include the Mega School in Argungu, the ultra-modern Secretariat Complex in Birnin Kebbi, the newly constructed Central Motor Park, and a fleet of mass transit buses procured to enhance transportation and economic activities.
The visit underscored the strong synergy between the Federal Government and Kebbi State in driving infrastructure-led development. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway will significantly boost agriculture, trade, and regional connectivity.
