Police, Joint Security Team Arrest 2 in Zamfara, Recover 55 Round of AK-47 Ammunation

Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command, working with other security agencies, have arrested two suspects and recovered 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Anka Local Government Area.
The breakthrough was announced in a statement on Monday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
According to the statement, the arrest was made at about 6:00 a.m. on 27th July 2026 along the Anka–Bagega Road.
A joint security team comprising Police personnel, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and members of the Community Protection Guard, CPG, intercepted a Volkswagen Golf III with registration number Kogi MPA 92 AA.
The driver, identified as Abubakar Rilwanu of Bagega in Anka LGA, was stopped for a routine search. During the inspection, operatives found 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed in a polythene bag inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the ammunition belonged to Rabiu Mohammed, a passenger from Jambako in Maradun LGA.
Rabiu reportedly confessed that he collected the ammunition from Dodori in Gwandu LGA of Kebbi State and was transporting it for delivery to one “Oliya,” who is currently at large.
Both suspects are in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation. The Command said efforts are ongoing to track down Oliya and dismantle the wider supply network.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A. M. Bello described the operation as part of sustained efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition in the state.
He commended the joint team for the arrest and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Zamfara State,” CP Bello stated.
The case is expected to be transferred for further investigation and prosecution after the manhunt for the fleeing suspect is concluded.
